Nebraska Medicare Part D Plans

Choosing the right Nebraska Medicare Part D Plan for 2014Nebraska Part D

If you are eligible for Medicare and need to enroll in a Medicare Part D Plan you have some work to do. There are 29 Medicare Part D Plans available in Nebraska for 2014.

Part D Plans start at $12.60 per month and can have monthly premiums above $100. But price is not an indicator as to which plan is best or more importantly, best for you.

In addition, the monthly premium is not the only factor that contributes to the annual cost of a Part D Plan. You must consider whether or not here is an annual deductible, the copay or coinsurance amount required when you fill a prescription and whether or not there is any coverage while you are in the donut hole.

The plan’s formulary (list of covered drugs) also plays a role in your total annual cost. The formulary will indicate which tier a drug is placed in (which effects copay/coinsurance) and whether or not all your drugs are included. If some of your medications are not included, you will pay full retail and that certainly will effect your total drug costs!

Enrolling in a Part D Plan

Although there are those that would debate whether or not you should enroll in a Part D Plan, the arguments against enrolling are weak at best. Even if you are not required to take prescription medications, the likelihood that you may in the future is pretty strong. Given the fact that you can enroll in a Part D plan available in Nebraska for as little as $12.60 per month, it seems foolish not to make that small investment. You spend more to ensure your property, why not invest a small amount to insure your health?

Should you choose not to enroll in a Part D Plan when you are first eligible, you have the likelihood that you will pay a penalty to enroll later. Each month you delay enrollment will result in the additional cost equal to 1% of the average monthly Part D premium added to your premium when you do enroll. Wait 10 months… pay an extra 10%.

With 29 Part D Plans available in Nebraska you should have no problem finding a plan to suit your needs. Use the above list to narrow your choices, then visit each plan’s website to review the formulary and other specifics. It’s that easy!
